Simple shakshuka

Hereby, I present a short and easy shakshuka recipe I make for Sundays brunch.



  • 5 tomatoes

  • 1,5 paprikas

  • 2 garlic cloves

  • 1/2 onion

  • 1 spoon ghee butter

  • 3 eggs

  • Cumin, smoked paprika, salt and pepper

  • Herbs to decorate (optional). Here I used celery leafs, parsley and coriender


  • I start by blanching the tomatoes. I like to make little cuts in the skin beforehand. I just pour some boiling water over tomatoes, let them stay for approximately 5 mins, then pour the hot water out, and add some cold water over them.

  • In the meantime - cut onion to small squares.

  • Add ghee to the pan.

  • Fry onion, cumin, smoked paprika, salt.

  • Peel the skin of tomatoes, cut them to small pieces, add to fried onion.

  • In the meantime, I cut the paprika into small dices, cut garlic, add and combine all in the frying pan, add a tbsp of tomato paste.

  • When the mass is ready and uniform, reduce the head, make little holes for eggs, I crack eggs directly to the pan and put the lid on.

  • When eggs are in wanted consistency (I like the white to be boiled and yolks runny), add the herbs, if wanted, more salt and pepper to the top.
